‘It’s not God I’m joking about’: Religion, stand-up comedy, dark comedy, and public sphere

This article tries to look at the social aspects of dark comedy used in stand-up comedy. Dark is seen as problematic because it a vortex humor, subjectivity, and public. To capture analyze these various phenomena, authors use socio-anthropological perspective with play theory from Sastramidjaja’s dissertation (2016) which complemented by publicness Sasono’s PhD theses (2019). research qualitative, using data collection methods form semi-structured interviews several main questions are deepened still referring questions, especially know process preparing jokes performances.This was conducted Stand Up Indo Bekasi community University Bhayangkara Jaya (UBJ) three comedians who often joke material consisting Bilal (Muslim), Ahmad James (son Christian priest). paper reveals finding that does not only come comedians, but also involves public sphere grievances.
